James-Michael LAVIGNE Photo Gallery 2008 - Celebrating 25 years in Sports. This video is dedicated to the memory of the late Tom Wadell, Founder of the Gay Games and one of my personal Heroes. Thank You Tom Waddell for giving me the BEST sporting experiences of my life - Vancouver 1990 (Silver Medallist), Amsterdam 1998 (Gold Medallist). Men's Middle Weight and Welter Weight Bodybuilding. Representing: CANADA I consider it to be part of my life's mission to help promote physical fitness, health, nutrition and sports in the Gay & Lesbian community, as well as challenge and encourage athletes from around the world to take part in International Gay & Lesbian sporting events. You will notice in my pictures and my videos, that I am a cigar smoker. I have one vice ;-) and I consider myself to be perfectly imperfect.....this is part of my charm LOL!! ;-). I never have more than 2 or 3 cigars per month. And, quite honestly, the image of the male athlete winning the Stanley Cup, Super Bowl or World Series soaked in champagne and lighting up a cigar to celebrate, has always brought the words wow and I mean WOW!!! out of my mouth. Having won 5 gold medals myself, I use the cigar in my videos and pictures as part of the celebration - OH YA! I just love the Cigar in Art. When you look at my photographs, I hope that you will come away with an example of what a Gay Games Gold Medal Bodybuilding Champion looks like. My hope is that my body of work will be appreciated and that it serves to inspire others to do the same and even better. Many laughed at me when I told them that I was competing at the Gay Games. I thank God that I did. Today, I have the privilege of training/coaching some of French Canada's biggest TV, film and music performers as well as dedicated people who want to take better care of themselves. My gold medal brought me extraordinary conversation, extraordinary laughter and with some of the most extraordinary people. I retired from the sport in 2005 and it is a blessing being able to give back. Tom Waddell is a Hero. He had a dream and a vision to create one of the world's largest sporting events. It's imperative that we keep his dream a reality. We MUST keep the Gay Games alive FOREVER! I have so many great and fond memories and you too will have the same if you participate. The next Gay Games are in Cologne, Germany in 2010. We have many challenges ahead of us - with HIV, AIDS, drug addiction, alcohol addiction, depression and suicide so rampant in our community worldwide. Our best offense is to try to live a healthy lifestyle - to strive (in spite of our vices) towards reaching optimal health and towards building self esteem through physical activity and the participation in international sporting events. It will make you feel so good and so STRONG. OH YA! Even if there are people out there who think that you are a lesser human being and inadequate because of your sexual preferences, skin color or religion......please know that only you can define your place in this world - YOU TOO CAN BE THE VERY BEST IN THIS WORLD.
